Since Sompting Larks changed from being a youth Side to a fully mixed Morris Side in the summer of 2019, we have been meeting weekly at Downsbrook Primary School (https://www.downsbrook.org/Welcome/) in Broadwater, Worthing to practice dancing. Prior to the pandemic we would meet in the school hall on a Tuesday evening, but once restrictions came about due to Covid-19, the school generously allowed us to use their grounds and outdoor space during evenings and weekends, enabling us to continue meeting safely whilst many other Morris Sides had to cease practicing altogether. This has proven to be something which has helped see us through the lockdown and survive as a viable Side to dance together again whilst other groups were not so fortunate.
Downsbrook Primary School have set up a foodbank to help the local community surrounding the school, as many people have faced hardship due to loss of income from the ongoing pandemic, and Sompting Larks felt unanimously that this would be a very worthwhile cause to donate to, as a way of giving back to the school for everything they have done for us. Last Sumer our Foreman wrote a handkerchief dance called Downsbrook which is dedicated to the school for being so helpful by providing us with the necessary space to get off the ground as a Side. We would also like to take this opportunity to express our most sincere thanks to Downsbrook for everything they have done for us, and we hope to continue forging positive relationships with the school and their community into the future.
